Day 11

In your own space, post a rec for fannish and/or creative resources. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

For fic I mostly go for various wikis, because I have to say that the fanwriters and artists who started doing most of their stuff after wikis became common don't know how lucky they are. So useful, seriously.

SenshiStock is the best collection of stock photos for fanart pose references that I've found so far.

As I said before, prompts and constraints usually help me out. Here are a few communities and contests that I'm using a lot right now.

Day 10

Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing. Try working in a new medium. Or check out some fanworks that are new to you. (The recs from Day 1 might be a good place to start!) Leave a comment in this post saying you did it.

Well, if I'm going to ask for people to use symmetrinas as a fanwork style, I might as well start it off.

I think I'll save Day 8 until the end, or when I really need it.

Day 9
In your own space, talk about what surprises you about fandom. It could be a pairing or fandom you never thought you'd like. A fanwork type you never knew existed. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Day 7

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Day 5

In your own space, talk about your fannish origin story. How did you come to fandom, why did you choose your fannish name, do you have more than one secret identity? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

(Skipping Day 4 because, well, it was to interact with people I'd never interacted before, and there's not much to say about having done it! Also I kind of missed Day 5. I'll do it later.)

Day 6

In your own space, create a fanwork. A drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. A picspam. Something. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Day 3

In your own space, talk about your creative process - from what inspires you to what motivates you to how you manage to break through blocks. Does your process change depending on the type of creating you're doing? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

A few thoughts. )

Dealing with Blocks:

Really, the only way I can get through a block is by doing something, even if it's not the project I really want to be working on. This is probably why prompts help me so much, actually.

I almost exclusively do silly fanart and flashfics these days. There are still longer projects in my head, but I don't know when I'll have time to do them. (Besides, with the sheer number of longer projects on my computer that I never finished, I probably shouldn't add to the pile.)

That's honestly about all I can think of. (Process? What process? I just do things.)

Day 2

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

#1:
(tl;dr: Can we make Multiamory March a big thing, please?)

Details and context )

I have no idea what to ask for beyond that.

#2: More art nouveau-styled fanart is always good.

#3: It sounds silly, but I discovered symmetrinas on a challenge community and it would be pretty cool if the form became more popular in fanworks. (Not that I've managed to write one yet either.)

(I made this multifandom for a reason, but if you did want to write something based on my interests, this journal's profile has a list of fandoms that I like, and the tag list gives a pretty good idea of more specific characters and relationships that I like.)

I wasn't going to do this this year, but what the heck.

Fandom Snowflake Challenge banner

Day 1:
Day 1: In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Links to a few pictures that I particularly like (or at least think are better than some of the others I've done so far):

VP: Dishonorable Work (Janus, some blood but not very graphic)
Brigandine: Forehead touches (Victoria/Iria)
FFVII - Close to you (Barret/Tifa, still more forehead touches.)
DA - Fetch! (Mabari, NSFW for blood/cartoony gore)

Day 13

In your own space, ask for recs. Something as simple as "I like XYZ (where XYZ is a kink, a pairing, a trope, etc) - please rec me some." Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

No need for a cut, I think.

Things I haven't really mentioned yet:

- Burn Notice, anything involving Madeline Westen as a major character. Gen is fine. As relationships go I could be convinced to try anything, as long as everyone's in character. (I particularly like Maddie/Virgil and I'm intrigued by Maddie/Sam.) Be sure to let me know what season the fanwork is set in so that I can avoid spoilers until I catch up through S6!

- Homestuck, things about the ashen quadrant and its dynamics. I tend to think of them as three-person relationships but I'm open to other interpretations - I just want to see some fic or meta or art/comics or whatever about how they actually work.

- Any fandom (no, seriously, if I don't know the fandom I'll probably read it anyway, the only things I *might* balk on are fandoms that I'm trying to get caught up on), stories about a romantic triad that include an asexual character, that isn't just all about how complicated it is because character z is asexual but that doesn't ignore the fact of it either. Does that make sense? It's an issue in the story, but not the be-all end-all of their relationship.

Other than that, I'd also love to get recs for anything else I've mentioned in this challenge, too.

Day Twelve

In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you think would make a good intro into XYZ fandom. Rec a fandom overview, a introductory picspam, stories that define and shape the fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

If at all possible, try to pick a smaller or rarer fandom, one that maybe doesn't have the following you feel it should.

I've already done a lot of reccing for the smaller fandoms that I'm familiar with, or at least the ones that I know there are a lot of fanworks for. And I have a hard time choosing "defining" fanworks for any particular fandom, so I'm not really one to do stuff like that.

I could do relationships, though. So I'm bending the rules a bit.
Just two for now, but I may come back and do more. I'll probably post them separately.

Day 9! Had to take a bit of a break before writing this one.

Day Nine

In your own space, create a fanwork. A drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. A picspam. Something. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Day 8

In your own space, talk about setting yourself a fannish goal. Big or small, it doesn't matter. Some examples: complete a bingo, sign up for a Big Bang, write that fic you've been thinking about for years, podfic that story that you love, make a fanmix for your fandom, post that bit of meta or reclist you keep putting off. Maybe resolve to be better at leaving feedback or answering comments. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

In your own space, share something non-fannish about yourself. A passion or a hobby or a talent, something that people might not know about you. We are more than just our fandoms. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Um. Again I'm a bit stuck.

- I can draw just about anything if I have it in front of me. (The hard part for me is making the jump into drawing from imagination.)
- I've taken some small steps into programming, and I think it's working out pretty well so far. I'm probably best with Python right now, although I'm looking at a few other languages right now (Ruby, HTML5 and JS, mostly.) It's pretty exciting.
- I want to be a fitness nut, but I need to be awake enough to exercise more often than I do, eh heh.
- I (still) like coloring books. I tell myself that it's a good way to practice what I'm learning about color theory, but in reality I just enjoy them. ;p

In your own space, pimp three comms or challenges and explain why you love them. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Here we go - Two that have been relatively active, and one that I'd like to boost and revive a bit if we possibly can!

Day 5

Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing. Try working in a new medium. Or consume different fanworks. Give that new fandom a go. Listen to a podfic or watch some vids if you haven’t before. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it.

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Drop a link to your post in the comments. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.

Again, here's last year, which all still apply. :)

(Fandoms: Valkyrie Profile Series, Homestuck. More may be added later as I think on this.)

Well, let's start this.

Day 1

It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. I think I posted the "defining" fanworks last time. This time... hmm.

Oh, what the heck. These are my favorites that are not safe for work, mostly for sexual content. So obviously, if you're sensitive to sexual content, you won't wanna read this.

I kind of skipped day 6 because I couldn't think of three things that I had been unwilling to try reading. I could think of two, maybe. Maybe I'll add them back in.

Day 7:
