Day 2. I worked a lot today and didn't feel like doing much, but here are a few things.
Feedback:
The single chapter update to my FFVI Barret-fic collection has made the fic get 83 views in the last two days. They are from 23 distinct visitors, to be fair. Still, to put that in perspective, that hit count is as many as some of my fics about Barret and Tifa have gotten on AO3 in months or years.
The others have far less. The MCU fic is getting a fair number of hits but little feedback (a couple of faves, no reviews.) I was expecting that one to be the one that got the most attention, being a much larger and newer fandom. I took a screencap at about 9:30 PM. Here it is:
I uploaded a new chapter to something I posted yesterday, just to see what happens. Other than that, I'm too tired to do a lot of curating, so I'll read some fic, write some reviews, and see what I think about that.
Reviews/Fic Recs:
- At least reviewing is pretty easy. So is adding to favorites and such. I wish that they hadn't changed the favorites to be the same as kudos on AO3, though. Gives people less incentive to review. Still, not having the button for it at the very top of the screen does make it a little less tempting to just do that.
- They kind of stuffed favoriting and following in the same dialogue box. I can't help but think that a lot of the follows on one-shots come from people who just don't quite get that they're different things. Not all of them, but at least some of them. (Also, I wish they'd come up with a way to just remove the "follow story" option on stories that are marked as complete.)
- Fics I read and liked enough to fave/review:
Things Forgotten (FFVI, Kefka + Terra, twisted platonic relationship)
Surprise Party (FFVII, Barret/Tifa, Marlene. Cute.)
For Luck (FFVII, Marlene and Tifa making greeting cards.)
Going Forward (FFVII, Barret, Marlene, Yuffie. Warning for character death.)
Patience (SO2, Noel/Rena/Dias fluff.)
To be fair some of these were gifts that I'd commented on elsewhere before. At some point I'll read some more variety. I'm just being picky at the moment.
- And I've already gotten a very nice PM from the author of Things Forgotten, thanking me for the review. Awww. :)
Misc:
- I just figured out how to "pair" characters from the character listing. The limit seems to be four characters and two relationships, which is probably for the best; the massive number of minor characters tagged in a lot of fics on other archives can be really disorienting and make it hard to search for minor characters. On the other hand, you can't tag the same character in two relationships, which can make things a bit tougher.
(You can, however, tag more than two characters in a relationship. Hurray, I can write and properly tag polyfic on ff.net now, as long as it's not more than four people, and few of mine are.)
- Sorting by listed character is still frustrating. There are so many stories in the distant past that were posted when that option didn't exist, that were never updated, that you have to rely on searches to find. And searches aren't always perfect. I can't help but think there are a lot of older things that are just going to get lost in the shuffle.
...yeah, that's all I've got for now. I am incredibly tired.
