Auron hated Zanarkand already.

He sighed as he watched the boy kick at a ball - his gift, for what it was worth. The place was utterly decadent. He could almost understand why machina was forbidden now; it was wrong, oppressive, surrounding him.

And all of the children of Zanarkand grew up with it all around them, including young Tidus, the blond boy with the curious eyes. It was far too easy to grow up soft, to give in to decadence. And who would ever know?

Auron made a promise, that moment. Jecht's son would not grow up that way.
