Personal Apocalypse

I came up with an alternate moiety system on FFVII for a Sedoretu challenge that I ended up having to drop because I forgot something, and now I keep having more ideas about it. So writing up a long meta/headcanon post as to how they might work. I might go more into depth about how these relationships worked later. A lot of this is from the traditional Sedoretu structure created by Ursula K. Le Guin.

I'm trying to figure out what to do for it now, since it's hard to get together the energy to research and write something new lately. My mind seems to have gone to "IDK it's just good" when I try to decide why I like something. I have a few ideas I can kick around, though.

I posted this in 2008, I think, then lost it for a few years when I lost the journal, then found a copy in my e-mail and resubmitted it to the tumblr community after some updates. If I could rewrite the links to fan content I would, because there's a fair bit more out there now.

SWTOR: Question 2. If you, AS YOURSELF, were to be written in as a character how would you be integrated into the storyline?

Probably just a farmer on one of the Republic planets, like... I don't know. Dantooine? I could see that.

I suck so much at this question, you just don't know.

On the one hand, obtuse adventure game puzzles bug me. (I still remember that one time in King's Quest 6 - the only way that I passed one of the early puzzles was by saving and using every single inventory item I had, and it was the very last item on my list that worked. There was NO WAY you could know that the particular item would do what you needed it to do unless you tested it beforehand, which I'd learned a long time ago NEVER to do in an adventure game because you'd end up using up something you would need later. And then the game got rough.)
On the other hand, I understand the appeal. They can be fun to come up with and find out if anyone will actually solve them.

A while back, when I was actually considering programming one, I came up with a puzzle. It's probably been done before, but I don't know. I don't know if it'd be extremely obvious, extremely irritating or something in between.

While I was working today I entertained myself by wondering what male characters would've made decent romantic interests in Quest for Glory 5 (if the hero could've been a lady, or if same-gender LIs had been allowed.) This contains spoilers for the entire game series, obviously.

It's not an easy question. I'm trying to stick to the same sorts of LIs that were actually in QfG5, who were single and young (or young-appearing) and human. And I'm finding there aren't a lot of options here.

QfG1: While Barnard von Speilberg might be an interesting option, I wouldn't be interested unless his storyline involved a lot of him getting over himself. (It would have to be a situation where he wasn't the Baron. Maybe there was some kind of revolt, I don't know. From what I gathered, he wasn't a popular leader.) I really can't think of any others.

QfG2: I'm drawing a blank... um. Ugarte, maybe?? Although certain scripted events in QfG5 would make that difficult. (It might help that you can save his life, though. And maybe part of his sidequest would involve helping him win his competition.)

QfG3: Yesufu would be a good one, if Johari hadn't randomly married him at the end of the game. (Although I would've romanced Johari if she'd been available, myself.) Honestly, he's the only young man I can even remember in that game.

QfG4: My first thought was Blackjack Davy (the one you save by rescuing Igor, and then you get your fortune told by his grandma in thanks.) And I really don't know the ages of anyone else in this game; most of them are married or otherwise unavailable.

QfG5: Drawing a blank here, at least on characters that were only introduced in this game. I can't even think of anyone that might be an alternate option to Katrina and Erana, at least not off the top of my head.

Of course, I for one would be all for having the ladies there too (as much as possible) and would probably pick Erana over all of them, if she was available. Still interesting to think about. (There are not many attractive men in this series. Lost of girls, but no guys. I'm not horribly surprised, though.)

I'll start with Star Ocean 2, because that's the one that I already have some ideas about. DQ8 is going to take a while longer.

I'm not good at this question. I can never see myself as a PC.

Star Ocean 2:
I'd like to think I'd be a researcher either in Lacour or Linga. Or maybe both, figuring how to make machines work with Symbology.

Dragon Quest 8:
...I have absolutely no idea where I'd fit into a world like that. Maybe I was studying magic? A former student of the guy that gets killed at the beginning of the game, and so maybe I know something about him and his former student.

yohjideranged asked about which Final Fantasy canon is my favorite. It's hard to call, so let me do some comparison here.

So. In terms of the actual question - which canon do I like the best? - I might go with FFX, simply because it felt like the design of the world and the game fit the plot and theme perfectly. In terms of the canon I like to explore the most outside of the game... probably FFVI.
