Auron hated Zanarkand already.

He sighed as he watched the boy kick at a ball - his gift, for what it was worth. The place was utterly decadent. He could almost understand why machina was forbidden now; it was wrong, oppressive, surrounding him.

And all of the children of Zanarkand grew up with it all around them, including young Tidus, the blond boy with the curious eyes. It was far too easy to grow up soft, to give in to decadence. And who would ever know?

Auron made a promise, that moment. Jecht's son would not grow up that way.

Of course Auron wouldn't let that happen. Even though old Auron seems willing enough to use machina in the game, I can imagine him being especially cantankerous about it when he was younger and new to Zanarkand.

This is an interesting drabble that I think could easily expand into a one shot.
