Fandom Snowflake Challenge 2013, Day 12

Day Twelve

In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you think would make a good intro into XYZ fandom. Rec a fandom overview, a introductory picspam, stories that define and shape the fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

If at all possible, try to pick a smaller or rarer fandom, one that maybe doesn't have the following you feel it should.

I've already done a lot of reccing for the smaller fandoms that I'm familiar with, or at least the ones that I know there are a lot of fanworks for. And I have a hard time choosing "defining" fanworks for any particular fandom, so I'm not really one to do stuff like that.

I could do relationships, though. So I'm bending the rules a bit.
Just two for now, but I may come back and do more. I'll probably post them separately.

Here goes - my favorite 'ship of the moment, Tifa and Barret from FFVII.

Much credit goes to tumblr user barrifa for reminding me of a lot of this stuff, or helping me find it in the first place, in some cases!

In Another Life by Rachel Plum (AMV, AC and some DoC I think? Barret/Tifa and some Cloud/Tifa hints. SFW.) I know it might seem a bit odd to have something concerning Cloud in this, but honestly, Cloud's important to Tifa and vice versa, and I really don't like the fanworks that ignore that entirely in the name of pairing them together. I'm recommending this video because I like how it expresses a lot of emotion in a short span, and Barret's sense of melancholy. (I still prefer a happy ending for them, though. There's a reason a lot of my own fics are AUs.)

Hope by Lirillith (Fanfiction, SFW) This fic, I think, really gets one of the things that I like about them, that they were friends and partners long before they were lovers, that they don't need crazy whirlwind relationships to be a passionate couple.

Happy Birthday, Teef by JaimeTheHedgehog. (Fanart, SFW) Including this one mostly because it made me smile, and I love the idea that Barret wears the sailor suit/hat for Tifa sometimes.


Decided to add another while this was still young, this one for Locke/Terra, since I've seen so many awesome fanworks about it (especially lately!)

Good Enough by Lirillith (Fic, safe for work, post-game.)
This is pretty much the definitive fic about these two, IMO. It would be impossible to recommend a collection of fanworks about these two without including it. It's a long read, but stick with it. It's definitely worth it!

In The Nuclear Season by lightningwaltz (Fic, Safe for work, set in the early World of Ruin.)
Fantastic development of Terra's character, Mobliz and her fitting in there, and her relationship with Locke. One of the best fics I've read for FFVI, period.

ロックの日【ロクティナ】 by Cham (Art, SFW. I hope I got the title right - please correct me if I'm wrong, or if you have a translation.)
Mostly including this one because I really like the image of Locke lending Terra his jacket. Even if she's not cold without it (my headcanon, since she seems innately fire-elemental) he'd probably still offer it, if for no other reason because she's not exactly dressed for desert travel.

There's a lot of Locke/Terra cosplay on dA, but this is the first one I found that captures the two of them as fighting together, side by side, and I think that's an important part of their relationship in the end (IMO she's capable of protecting Locke as much as he protected her.)

(That's it for now. I was going to include a link to a doujinshi that I read a while back that involved Terra, Locke and feeding some birds, but I can't find it anymore.)
