Rare Pair Fest letter.

Letter for rarepairfest (which is mostly on AO3.) It's probably about as done as it's going to get!


First a few things in general.

My AO3 user profile is Wallwalker.

I'm comfortable with pretty much any rating. And honestly, I'll be happy with just about anything. These are just a few ideas for you, and a small list of things that might help you get an idea of what I enjoy.

Things I love:
- Action, adventure, lovers fighting side-by-side.
- Friends becoming lovers.
- People who treat each other as equals and have their own agendas and personalities.
- Overcoming adversity.
- Relationships that don't necessarily end in a "Happily Ever After" - "Happily For Now" can be good, too!
- Alternate timelines (stories that differentiate from canon at a certain point but still take place in the same universe.)

Things that might bug me:
- Alternate universe settings - i.e. college dorm AUs and whatnot. It's hard to make it work for me personally in a short fic.
- Character bashing, including that of rival love interests - be nice to them, please!
- Unresolved or nonstop angst.
- Porn without plot - at least a little plot would be nice, please. :)
- Sex without consent. Please don't.

Specific fandoms/relationships:

1. Marvel Cinematic Universe:

Tony Stark/James "Rhodey" Rhodes
Pepper Potts/James "Rhodey" Rhodes/Tony Stark

I love Rhodey. I love Tony/Rhodey and have wanted to see more of it since the first Iron Man film. I also really love Pepper and her relationship with Tony and would be perfectly happy to see more Rhodey/Tony/Pepper, either as a triad or as a v-relationship (both in a relationship with Tony but not necessarily with each other, although if you go that route, I'd like Pepper and Rhodey to be friends.)

I'd rather not have a fic where Tony and/or Rhodey are panicking over their attraction to each other - keeping it relatively secret is fine, but I'd like everyone involved to be comfortable with the relationship! (Although if you wanna include tabloid headlines and how the people involve react to them, that would be hilarious.) And if you go for Tony/Rhodey for the fic, I'd like Pepper to be involved in Tony's life and treated well and comfortable with what's going on. She's an important part of Tony's life in the canon, after all.

(Also, in case it helps you with characterization or whatnot, I preferred Cheadle's interpretation of Rhodey's character.)

Phil Coulson/Nick Fury

I don't have a lot of specific ideas for these two. What I really love about them is Coulson's extreme competence and the way that Fury reacted in The Avengers - Coulson was his "one good eye," he relied on him a lot. I would love anything that explored that dynamic between them, no matter when in the continuity it is set.
(One optional idea: What if Fury wasn't the first to know that Coulson was not dead? What if his being alive was as much a surprise to him as it was to anyone else? I'm not sure how you'd make that work, but if you could, that would be a wonderful thing to explore.)

2. Final Fantasy VII:

Note: I'm familiar with the original game and with Advent Children. Still working my way to playing the rest of the compilation.

Tifa Lockhart/Barret Wallace

I like fics about the two of them making themselves as comfortable as they can together in Midgar before the game, and trying to be a good family to Marlene even when times are rough. I also like them fighting together and protecting each other, in just about any context. Seeing them rediscover how beautiful the world outside can be would be really great too, since they're two of the three party members who've spent the longest time stuck in the slums.
In all honesty, anything you do with these two as a couple would make me happy, as long as nobody else is bashed in the fic.

Yuffie Kisaragi/Cloud Strife

I see these two as a lot more compatible once Cloud's "real" personality starts to come out at the end of the game, as much as I do appreciate their date scene (and Yuffie being the forward one. ;) So something about that would be great! Maybe Cloud was more of a troublemaker when he was a kid than he let on and he ends up being able to show Yuffie a thing or two about making mischief. Maybe they bond over a new love of thrill-seeking (snowboard racing?) Stories about the two of them possibly adapting to life in Wutai and Yuffie's role as, perhaps, their eventual leader would be great as well - for instance, I can see Godo wanting Yuffie to study art or music or culture to prepare her, and Yuffie roping Cloud into them as well.

3. Mass Effect:

Notes: Stick to ME and ME2 canon and their accompanying DLCs, please. :) Still working my way through ME3. Alternate timelines are fine!

Tali'zorah vas Normandy/Kal'reegar

I really like the idea of Tali being the forceful one here, and Kal not really knowing what to do but trying his best to keep up with her, and ending up a little over his head. Also, something that considers Tali's nervous aggressiveness - romance her sometime and you'll see what I mean.
Suggestions: Vidsex, with Tali utterly flustering Kal, or makeouts before/during missions (contact-free, with the help of suit nerve-stims.) Or maybe Tali gets ahold of some specially-purified Turian food and/or wine and treats Kal to a special meal to thank him for standing by her at her trial on the Migrant Fleet. (If you want to include Veetor in this idea as well, I would definitely be okay with that!)

Kasumi Goto/Jacob Taylor

Kasumi liking to watch Jacob is always welcome, or even sneaking into the room while Jacob's exercising, Friendly wagers/"games" of chance are fun too, especially if Kasumi has an ulterior motive (and Jacob is okay with this.) Really, anything with Kasumi being playfully devious is great. I would like to see an actual relationship between them, however, not just Kasumi having a one-sided attraction. :)
