personalapocalypseFemslash Exchange Dear Author letter. I feel like my ability to write DA letters diminishes with each exchange, but I hope that this is at least a little bit helpful!
First of all, thank you very much.
Second of all, it's very easy to please me with this sort of thing, and I hope that you'll have fun! (The amount that I ramble on about each given fandom/pairing/whatever does not indicate favoritism or anything else like that, in case you were worried! I'd love to see any fandom or pair in this list.)
Things I love:
- Action, adventure, lovers fighting side-by-side.
- Friends becoming lovers.
- People who treat each other as equals and have their own agendas and personalities.
- Overcoming adversity.
- Relationships that don't necessarily end in a "Happily Ever After" - "Happily For Now" can be good, too!
- Alternate timelines (stories that differentiate from canon at a certain point but still take place in the same universe.)
Things that might bug me:
- Alternate universe settings - i.e. college dorm AUs and whatnot. It's hard to make it work for me, personally, in a short fic.
- Unresolved or nonstop angst.
- Sex without consent. Please don't.
General Notes:
- I am comfortable with any rating. I'm fine with smut and kink as long as the smut and kink tells us something about the characters (I don't mind porn without plot; it's porn without characterization that gets to me.) Violence is fine, and hard to avoid with some of these characters, but please don't go into hard-core slasher gore territory; it squicks me a bit. Thanks!
- Please don't bash any other characters or relationships. It's fine with me if you mention them, although I'd prefer them not to be a huge focus. If you want to mention it, you can mention a past relationship with someone else, even a guy - more depictions of bisexual characters that don't feel like cliches are always good! But I'd prefer more focus on the ladies, which shouldn't be a surprise.
Fandom: Star Ocean 2
Pairings: Celine/Chisato, Rena/Chisato, Celine/Opera, Chisato/Precis, Rena/Precis
Notes:
- These ladies are all awesome. Seriously. Some of them suffer a bit due to the relationships that the canon pushes for them, and that makes me sad, but on the whole they're all determined and willing to fight and all have their own interests and personalities. I would've probably requested all of the relationships if I'd had more than five.
- I just really want to see anything you want to write about these characters playing off of each other. Fluff/additional PAs set during the game would be fine. So would anything post-canon. Who ends up staying with whom, or goes off to explore the galaxy?
- (A few favorite scenarios for various characters to spark a few ideas: Rena and/or Precis attending Linga University, Opera's life on Tetragenis with her new partner and their own possible rise in the social circle there, Precis's work at modernizing Expel, Chisato attempting to set up a wider information network (or TV, so that she can start her own cooking show - okay, this bit is just crack, but still,) Celine taking her treasure-hunting to the stars or becoming the toast of a new society... the list goes on.)
Fandom: Valkyrie Profile Series
Pairings: Alicia/Leone, Celia/Aelia, Freya/Hrist, Lenneth/Freya, Mystina/Lorenta
Notes:
- Okay, seriously. I just want to see more of any of these. Almost all of these pairings (all but one) involve warrior ladies, while the last one involves two very powerful mages; either way, competition/cooperation involving their skills would be a great thing. Also some of them are very antagonistic, and I would be very much okay with love-hate relationships for this fandom.
Fandom: Mass Effect
Pairings: FemShep/Ashley, FemShep/Kelly, FemShep/Jack
Notes:
- I still haven't finished ME3 because of reasons, so if you can stick to canon from the first two games, I'd appreciate it. Set it at some point before Shepard's taken out of the picture after ME2, or create some sort of alternate timeline. I'm fine either way!
- I generally prefer a Shepard who makes Paragon, or mostly Paragon, decisions. That's my only preference about her - her appearance, her background, and her abilities are up to you.
- I love Jack and Ashley because they're tough, awesome women who had to deal with a lot of crap in their lives, but never let it get the better of them. I also appreciate that they both like poetry, albeit of different sorts, so if you want to work that into whichever fic you choose to write, go for it. Action scenes would also be a plus.
- As for Kelly, I like her friendly charm and how she's so unabashed and open about who she is and who she cares about, and I did like how her flirtation with FemShep went during ME2. Feel free to write her before or after the Reaper Base, but if you go for afterwards, please remember her PTSD and that she's basically dealing with it by not dealing with it while she's working on the Normandy; things might be different while she's alone with Shepard.
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Pairings: Aeris/Tifa, Jessie/Tifa, Jessie/Aeris, Elena/Shera, Elena/Scarlet, Shera/Scarlet
Notes:
- So yes, I have two triads in here if anyone wants to look at it that way, one Shinra and one AVALANCHE. If you'd like to try Aeris/Tifa/Jessie or Shera/Elena/Scarlet (or whatever order would work for either one,) go for it.
- If you want to do an alternate timeline or a story in which Jessie managed to escape in time to get away from the bomb, that's fine. If you want Jessie to be in the Lifestream, or want to write something about her interacting with the other girl(s) pre-canon, that's also fine. Do what works for you!
- Likewise, feel free to use an alternate timeline to make the pairings within Shinra work. All I ask for Shera is that she isn't hung up on Cid at the same time as the relationship is going on. Maybe they aren't really talking, maybe they had a relationship but ended up deciding it wasn't what they wanted, or maybe Scarlet noticed her in an alternate timeline and had her transferred to Weapons Development. Any of those could work, or anything else you think of - just try to keep Cid's involvement in the story to a minimum, please! :)
Fandom: Final Fantasy VIII
Pairings: Quistis/Fujin, Ellone/Rinoa, Quistis/Xu, Rinoa/Quistis
Notes:
- Magic meta in general and how the ladies' magic affects the relationship would be a beautiful thing, considering that most of these prompts involve at least one person who has some sort of magical power that people don't really understand (esp. with Rinoa, Ellone and Quistis.)
- A lot of the women in this fandom and this list are very powerful and dangerous ladies, who try to keep their insecurities in check but sometimes have them show through. I want to see things about them complimenting each other and helping each other understand that they don't have to be perfect, that they don't have to worry about being "strong" around each other. I feel like many of them build up walls around themselves, and while I don't necessarily want to see them broken down, building a few doors would be nice, if that makes sense. :)
