Three-sentence fic written for sidonie on this ficathon.

"Promise me that you'll keep my mother safe," Aeris says very quietly when Cait catches her sneaking away from the village alone, brushing aside all of his reasonable questions about why and where and how.

Reeve has no place to promise such a thing; Elmyra Gainsborough is safe enough for now, but she is where she is because Shinra thought he would need a bargaining chip and because taking the girl alone would have been nigh impossible without harming her caretaker, and Reeve hadn't been willing to allow still more collateral damage to be inflicted on the people of his city. But her jaw is set and her eyes are determined, and he knows that his mere robots can't win against her - the company had thought she was soft, but he knows better because he has seen her fight - so all he can do is tell Cait to nod, and to whisper back, "Aye, I promise."
