Multiamory March drabbles, 26-30.

I did finish all 100 of them on my tumblr. I am half-tempted to start posting them ten at a time here, but that's going to make tagging an even bigger nightmare. I'll think about it when I have more time.

Prompt #26: Missing
(Final Fantasy VII, Cloud/Aeris/Tifa. SFW. Spoilers.)

At first Aeris’s absence is an unavoidable ache. You and Cloud stay together, helping each other because you have to keep going until the fight is over, but there’s a gap between you that she’d helped you bridge, and sometimes you stumble over it.

It’s not until after you find the real Cloud again in Mideel that you start to feel her presence again. She isn’t missing; she’s watching over you both from her Promised Land, and she will always be there.

Someday, like Cloud said, you’ll all be together there. That gives you strength, helps you keep moving forward.

Prompt #27: Expression

Jecht had always been terrible at expressing feelings. His wife had understood that. But his son… yeah, he’d messed things up real bad with Tidus. Kid had to hate him now.

“Y’think he’ll ever forgive me?” he asked one night, huddled with Auron and Braska for warmth. He was exhausted and homesick and really wanted just one drink.

Auron hm’d sympathetically. Jecht knew he wouldn’t really get it; he wasn’t a dad. But Braska… he’d closed his eyes and said, “I hope so.”

Jecht knew the truth then, knew it wasn't just for him, and that broke his damn heart.

Prompt 28: Games

Things they’ve learned from board games:

- Rhodey is the best at chess. He uses strategy, unlike Tony, who just barges forward and attacks whatever he can reach.

- Tony has a great poker face. Pepper swears he practices it all the time. Rhodey is pretty sure he’s seen Tony practicing it while they were all in bed, but Tony won’t admit it.

- Their new version of Mousetrap, which involves an equally ridiculous contraption spanning an entire floor of Stark Tower, is much better than the original.

- They shouldn’t play Monopoly with Pepper, unless they don’t mind losing.

Prompt 29: Kids

Celes feared Terra’s children would shun her. During their first meeting she’d been a stranger threatening to take their mother away.

“You worry too much,” Locke had said gently when she’d mentioned it. “We care about Terra too, right? I think they’ll understand that, now that things are better.”

And when they arrived arm-in-arm with Terra, the kids rushed to all of them - even Celes, to her amazement. “Thank you for protecting Mama,” one of the older ones told her, tears in her eyes.

“Always,” she answered, not sure what to say, as Terra smiled and squeezed her hand.

Squall preferred the lights off.

Rinoa teased him about it until Quistis had taken her hand, let her feel one of her battle scars. From an Ochu, she explained, a stinging tentacle that they hadn’t been able to remove and treat quickly enough. The GFs could only do so much.

Rinoa didn’t understand at first; she didn’t care, she’d said, she still loved them both. And maybe Quistis didn’t care, but she knew Squall did. She knew what it was like, wanting to forget something painful for a while.

Rinoa never teased him again. Quistis hoped that meant she understood.
