I went through a lot of old LJ/IJ e-mails today, because I finally had the bright idea that I could find and recover at least some of the old works I lost when I lost my flash drive with my LJ backup. And I did recover a lot, including the Skies of Arcadia manifesto I wrote for Vyse/Aika/Fina that I wished I still had a backup of. I'll have to find new pictures for it, but that's okay! Expect to see some reposts of older stuff (as in, 5-7 year stuff) in the future; I'll try not to flood the comm too much, but I want them archived.

I also found this old meme, which I'm posting here for the lulz, because I don't even remember all of the answers! XD It was one of those "Describe some show/game/movie in brief and let people guess what they are" things.

I was thinking about Iron Man 3 again, in relation to another piece of meta I'm probably still going to write, and I came to a rather troubling conclusion about how the movie treated its lady characters.

Locke really doesn't do a good job of protecting anyone, does he? Not in the game, or in the backstory for the game, at any rate. (I'm not bashing him. I like Locke. This is more of an exploration of his various issues.)

I had known that MPAA ratings were controversial, and I still remember the outcry when ff.net decided to switch away from them for copyright reasons. But I had never really looked at their requirements or their politics. It's not surprising, but it's saddening all the same.

I had always known that they treated male and female sexuality unequally, and I had definitely noticed that male and female nudity was treated very differently. But I had never realized that a sex scene that shows a woman being coerced into sex, or otherwise giving only dubious consent at best, often finds it easier to get a lower rating than that of a woman actually enjoying herself and whole-heartedly consenting to sex! Is that really a message we should be sending to kids, of either gender? That it's okay as long as you make her do it/someone makes you do it?

Still, it's the system that a lot of people have grown used to, and I can say, it's hard to get used to something else. I like the system that thene suggests in its place, though the one change I'd make is to separate the SFW tags as well. SFW covers a lot of ground, and it would be good to at least have a way to differentiate between, say, angst and happy fluff. Although a separate "Genre" tag might work better for those purposes.

(On another note, people can still read outside internet stuff at work? I know my workplace has never allowed it. Everything's blocked.)

Short post today on remakes and reboots, as there isn't as much for me to say as usual.

As promised on Day 5, here's a meta post about the various forms of magic - more specifically the sources of the various forms of magic - in Final Fantasy VIII. I have various things that I'm writing about them, and maybe a bit of meta about it will actually help me get it out, since I've been trying for a long time.

[Yesterday was a busy day, so I missed the first post of the month. Stay on top of this, self.]

Okay, it's Meta Month for me! The first day is going to be an introduction, just so people know where I'm coming from.

I had a similar post to this on my old fandom journal, but it's out of date now, and I went into a lot of detail about pairings and specific fandoms and the like. If anyone wants to know, I'll go into that much detail later, but this one is a summary.
